Typesetting and software
from Tokyo
Fermion is a small company in Shibuya, Tokyo, run by students at the University of Tokyo. We typeset books and teaching materials, and we make Scoring64, software for grading paper tests.
Typesetting and
book design
We typeset books, journals and teaching materials in LaTeX, Word, or InDesign/Illustrator, and fit into your current production and proofreading workflow.
Even in InDesign or Word, we set the mathematics with TeX using our own tools, so equations match the body text in font and size. Corrections are made in the source and re-typeset, not patched by hand.
Besides whole projects, we can take on a few chapters during a busy season, just the equations and figures, or the cover.
Scoring64:
grading paper tests
Scoring64 is desktop software for Windows and Mac that grades paper tests. Teachers scan the answer sheets; bubble questions are graded automatically and written answers on screen, with optional AI grading through Codex or Claude Code. Marked PDFs and a score sheet come out at the end.
Each computer can grade 2 tests a month for free. The Windows and Mac versions are in English from version 1.2.0. Scoring64 is also on the Mac App Store, as a separate edition with in-app purchases.
Who we are
Fermion was founded in July 2026 by Takumi Kokawa and Kosei Kawaguchi, both students at the University of Tokyo. Kosei Kawaguchi (KKTeX) is the author of eight LaTeX packages published on CTAN and leads our typesetting work.
